• Rickie Weeks will see a doctor this week after experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired right wrist. The Brewers are claiming that this is just a precautionary move.
  • Don’t pencil in Cristian Guzman as your opening day shortstop in Washington just yet. Guzman said his shoulder is "not 100 percent" and it will be two or three weeks before he's throwing in workouts.
  • The New York Mets today signed catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. He is expected to join the team and be in uniform on Tuesday. Alomar, 40, appeared in 27 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006 before being traded to the Chicago White Sox on July 23rd. With the two teams, Sandy hit a combined .278 (30-108) with eight doubles, one home run and 30 RBI in 46 games.
  • Corey Koskie will miss Spring Training due to post concussion syndrome. It appears that Craig Counsell and Tony Graffanino will share time at third base…that is, unless Rickie Weeks winds up missing time as well.
  • The Cardinals’ Cy Young pitcher Chris Carpenter is looking to develop and refine his changeup, a pitch he says he hasn’t really had since coming back from arm surgery.
  • The San Diego Padres announced today that they have purchased the contract of Oscar Robles from the Mexico City Red Devils and signed the infielder to a minor league contract. Robles has been extended an invitation to Major League Spring Training.
  • The Toronto Blue Jays and manager John Gibbons have agreed to a one-year, $650,000 contract extension.
  • Kerry Wood threw 25 pitches off a mound Monday in his first bullpen session of the spring. Manager Lou Piniella seemed to be impressed.
  • Angels’ outfielder Juan Rivera is not expected in camp yet. Rivera is still recovering from a fractured leg suffered in winter ball. He will be re-examined by doctors in a couple weeks.
  • New Texas Rangers closer Eric Gagne threw off a mound for the first time on Monday and felt fine.
