Alex Ochoa went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI for the Red Sox, and Josh Beckett struck out five over two scoreless innings to lead Boston to an 11-0 victory over Northeastern.


Victor Martinez had 3 hits, including a three-run homer, and scored three times, and Mike Rose went 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI as Cleveland ripped Houston, 13-2.


Roy Halladay pitched two scoreless innings, and Aaron Hill hit a 2-run homer to help Toronto to a 4-1 win over the Red Sox in a split squad game for Boston.


Gary Sheffield hit a 3-run homer, and Placido Polanco added 2 hits and 2 RBI as Detroit edged Philadelphia, 9-7.


Johnny Damon and Jason Giambi homered, and starter Chien-Ming Wang retired all six batters he faced as the Yankees beat up Carlos Silva and the Minnesota Twins, 6-1.

Carlos Quentin homered and drove in 2 runs, and
Conor Jackson added 2 hits and an RBI to lead the Diamondbacks over the White Sox spilt squad, 8-5. Javier Vazquez allowed 5 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks in just 2 1/3 innings.


Jake Peavy pitched 2 scoreless innings, but his counterpart Chris Reitsma wasn’t as fortunate as he gave up all 4 San Diego runs to allow the Padres to beat the Mariners, 4-3.

Yuniel Escobar collected 3 hits, and
Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in 2 runs as the Braves roughed up Randy Wolf and Chad Billingsley in Atlanta’s 7-2 win over the Dodgers.


Chris Gomez belted a 2-run homer, had 3 RBI and 2 runs scored, but that wasn’t enough for the Orioles to hold off Joe Borchard (2-for-3 with an RBI and a run) and the Marlins as Florida nipped Baltimore, 8-6.

Josh Hamilton,
Adam Dunn, Brandon Phillips, Mark Bellhorn and Jeff Keppinger all hit home runs to help the Reds to a 9-7 slugfest win over Pittsburgh.


Jose Reyes homered, and Tom Glavine pitched 2 scoreless innings as the Mets downed the Cardinals, 4-3. Scott Spiezio, Chris Duncan, and Edgar Gonzalez all hit solo home runs for St. Louis.

Making his first start as a Giant,
Barry Zito allowed just one hit over two innings to help San Francisco spoil the Cubs debut of Jason Marquis, 9-2.

Ryan Braun went 4-for-5 with 7 RBI including a grand slam to carry the Brewers back from a 6-0 deficit on their way to a 14-8 win over Oakland. Jason Windsor and
Scott Dunn got hammered, allowing 10 runs over 3 2/3 innings for the Athletics.

  • Shortstop Michael Young has agreed to a contract extension worth about $80 million over five seasons with the Texas Rangers.
  • Major League Baseball officials want more information on allegations that Angels outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. received HGH from a pharmacy that's part of a widespread steroid investigation.
  • Right-hander Matt Cain and the San Francisco Giants agreed Thursday to a $9 million, four-year contract that includes a vesting club option for 2011.
  • Cincinnati Reds executive vice president and general manager Wayne Krivsky today announced that RHP Dustin Hermanson has agreed to terms on a 1-year minor league contract and has been invited to Major League spring training camp.
  • The Reds have signed to 1-year contracts IF Jeff Keppinger, OF Norris Hopper, RHP Elizardo Ramirez and 3B Edwin Encarnacion.
  • The Devil Rays signed to one-year deals RHP Shawn Camp, INF Jorge Cantu, RHP Jason Hammel, LHP Scott Kazmir, RHP Jae Kuk Ryu, RHP Juan Salas, RHP James Shields and INF BJ Upton…all 40 rostered players are now under contract for the 2007 season.
  • After a third strong bullpen session Thursday, Arizona left-hander Randy Johnson said he might be ready to make his first regular-season start in April.
