Andy Pettitte pitched 2 perfect innings in his first game back with the Yankees as New York downed Tampa Bay, 3-1.

Erik Bedard and 6 Baltimore pitchers combined to allow just one hit as the Orioles shut out the Marlins, 3-0.

Ryan Shealy hit a 3-run homer and Gil Meche pitched 3 scoreless innings to lead the Royals to an 8-6 win over the Rangers.

Milton Bradley had 3 hits and Daric Barton drove in 2 runs in the 8th inning to propel the A’s to a 7-6 comeback win over the Brewers. Johnny Estrada had 2 hits and 3 RBI for the Brew Crew split squad.

Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed one hit in two innings with three strikeouts, and David Murphy had 2 hits, 2 RBI, and scored 3 times as the Red Sox split squad beat up on Boston College, 9-1.

Joey Votto went 2-for-2 and
Edwin Encarnacion added a solo homer as the Reds defeated the Twins, 5-2.

David Newhan had 2 hits, a triple, and drove in 3 runs, and the Mets scored 5 times in the last 3 innings to edge the Cardinals, 6-5.

Ryan Howard homered and scored twice to help the Phillies overcome 3 Cleveland home runs as Philadelphia beat the Indians, 6-4.

Ivan Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored and Carlos Guillen chipped in with 2 hits and 2 RBI of his own as the Tigers out-slugged the Astros, 13-8. Hunter Pence went 3-for-3 with a homer, 3 RBI, and 2 runs scored for Houston.

Jeff Francoeur hit a solo home run and Martin Prado drove in 2 as Atlanta nipped Pittsburgh, 5-4.

Larry Bigbie went 3-for-3 with 2 home runs, a double, and 5 RBI to lead the Dodgers past Ryan Zimmerman (2-for-3, HR, 3 RBI) and the Dodgers, 12-7.

Chone Figgins went 3-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored, and the Angels pounded out 13 hits on the way to a 9-6 win over the Cubs. Matt Murton went 3-for-3 with a homer and 4 RBI in defeat.

Hernan Iribarren and
J.D. Closser each drove in 7 runs, and Mike Rivera added 5 hits, 2 doubles, and 5 runs scored as the Brewers destroyed Matt Cain, Brad Hennessey, and the rest of the Giants pitching staff, 21-2.

Brian Barden had 2 hits, a homer, and 2 RBI, and
Livan Hernandez was solid in 3 innings of work as the Diamondbacks pounded the White Sox, 10-3.

  • DirecTV acknowledged an agreement with Major League Baseball to become the sole television distributor of the sport's out-of-market package in a letter to the Federal Communications Commission, saying the deal will benefit consumers.
  • Minnesota center fielder Torii Hunter left Friday night's game after being hit in the head by a first-inning pitch thrown by former teammate and Cincinnati starter Kyle Lohse.
  • Josh Johnson's sore arm might be the result of nerve damage that could force the Florida Marlins' right-hander to miss the first month of the season or more.
  • The Philadelphia Phillies renewed the contract of NL MVP Ryan Howard on Friday and gave the first baseman a $900,000 salary after the sides failed to agree on a long-term deal. The figure matches the highest base salary in a one-year contract for a player not eligible for arbitration.
  • Chan Ho Park, already in the country and in the Mets' camp, was prevented from making his scheduled start Friday against the Cardinals because he had yet to receive his work visa and couldn't pitch in a game for which admission was charged.
  • New York Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez will be throwing Saturday as part of his recuperation from October rotator cuff surgery.
  • Texas Rangers infielder Jerry Hairston Jr.'s name surfaced Friday in connection with the widespread steroids investigation out of upstate New York.
  • With the help of his agent, Barry Praver, Sidney Ponson obtained his work visa Thursday in the Bahamas and is now able to pitch for the Twins in official Spring Training games.
  • Clem Labine, one of "The Boys of Summer" on the Brooklyn Dodgers teams of the 1950s, died on Friday after a brief illness. He was 80.
  • The San Francisco Giants have agreed to terms on one-year contracts with the following 22 players: pitcher Kelyn Acosta, catcher Eliezer Alfonzo, pitcher Vinnie Chulk, pitcher Kevin Correia, outfielder Jason Ellison, infielder Kevin Frandsen, pitcher Brad Hennessey, infielder Travis Ishikawa, outfielder Frederick Lewis, outfielder Todd Linden, pitcher Osiris Matos, pitcher Patrick Misch, pitcher Scott Munter, infielder Lance Niekro, outfielder Daniel Ortmeier, pitcher Billy Sadler, pitcher Jonathan Sanchez, outfielder Nate Schierholtz, pitcher Jack Taschner, pitcher Erick Threets, pitcher Merkin Valdez, infielder Eugenio Velez and pitcher Brian Wilson. All 40 players on the big league roster are now under contract.
  • The New York Mets today announced that they have agreed to terms with righthanded pitchers Jon Adkins, Ambiorix Burgos, Marcos Carvajal, John Maine, Juan Padilla and Alay Soler; lefthanded pitchers Adam Bostick, Pedro Feliciano and Jason Vargas; infielder Anderson Hernandez; and outfielders Carlos Gomez, Ben Johnson and Lastings Milledge. In addition, New York has renewed the contract of righthanded pitcher Aaron Heilman. All players on the 40-Man Roster are now under contract.
  • The Twins have agreed to terms with pitchers Scott Baker, Boof Bonser, Ricky Barrett, Julio DePaula, J.D. Durbin, Matt Garza, Matt Guerrier, Francisco Liriano, Jose Mijares, Pat Neshek, Glen Perkins, Errol Simonitsch, Alexander Smit and Oswaldo Sosa, catcher Chris Heintz, infielders Jason Bartlett, Alexi Casilla, Garrett Jones and Alejandro Machado, and outfielders Jason Kubel, Denard Span and Jason Tyner.
  • The Brewers today signed the following players to 1-year contracts…..C JD Closser, OF Gabe Gross, OF Tony Gwynn, SS J.J. Hardy, OF Corey Hart. The Brewers also renewed the contract of 1B Prince Fielder.
  • The San Diego Padres announced today that they have agreed to terms with 22 players on contracts for the 2007 season. Agreeing to terms were right-handed pitchers Clay Hensley, Cla Meredith, Heath Bell, Scott Cassidy, Mike Adams, Mike Thompson, Tim Stauffer, Andrew Brown, Kevin Cameron, Leo Rosales and Jared Wells, left-handed pitchers Royce Ring, Justin Hampson, Ryan Ketchner and Sean Thompson, catcher Rob Bowen, infielders Kevin Kouzmanoff, Paul McAnulty, Luis Cruz and Craig Stansberry, and outfielders Terrmel Sledge and Jack Cust.
  • The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has agreed to terms with righthanded pitchers Chad Durbin, Zach Miner, Jordan Tata and Joel Zumaya, lefthanded pitcher Wilfredo Ledezma, infielders Tony Giarratano and Chris Shelton and outfielders Brent Clevlen and Marcus Thames. Additionally, the club renewed the contract of righthanded pitcher Jason Grilli. The Tigers currently have all 40 players on the 40-man roster under contract for the 2007 season.
