According to MLB.com, 24-year-old third baseman turned outfielder Chase Headley is expected to be added to the 25-man roster on Sunday. Headley made the flight from Fresno -- where he was playing with the Portland Beavers at the Triple-A level -- to Cleveland and the Padres will make a roster move to make Headley available for Sunday's game.
At Portland, Headley hit .305 with 13 home runs and 40 RBI in 65 games. The switch-hitting Headley hit .330 with a .437 on-base percentage at Double-A San Antonio in 2007 and almost made the Opening Day roster.
Once Headley joins the team, he will give the Padres an additional option in left field and at third base. With the Padres at five outfielders on their 25-man roster, the Padres could send down one of their outfielders which makes rookie Justin Huber a likely candidate to be sent down.
