- Grand Canyon LHP A.J. Murray (TEX) has only yielded 2 ER in his 9.1 innings, with 9 K’s in his 4 appearances this fall

- Arizona GM Josh Byrnes has made it clear that the D-Backs will probably shy away from the free agent market and try to improve the pitching staff through trades.
- The Cleveland Indians today announced Ross Atkins has been named Director of Player Development. Atkins replaces John Farrell, who was recently named the Pitching Coach of the Boston Red Sox. Prior to today’s promotion, Atkins served as the organization’s Director of Latin American Operations since being named to the post in August of 2003. In his new role Ross will oversee all elements of the Tribe’s Player Development system, including the organization’s six (6) minor league affiliates and the Latin American program in the Dominican Republic.
- The Chicago Cubs today announced that six-time American League All-Star shortstop Alan Trammell has agreed to a two-year deal to be the Cubs bench coach and infield instructor.
- Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and CEO Larry Lucchino confirmed that Epstein does indeed have a signed agreement to serve as general manager of the club.
- The Reds have hinted that they might move infielder
Brandon Phillips from 2B to SS if their offseason search for a SS fails. - The Indians will make an attempt to re-sign 2B Ronnie Belliard after the season
- The Rockies are expected to interview Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter for their open hitting coach job
- Milwaukee's
Bill Hall said he was told by manager Ned Yost that he will play at one position next season instead of being moved around from one spot to another. - According to GM Terry Ryan,
Francisco Liriano is making strides a week into his therapy and rehabilitation in Florida. No timetable is in place for begin a throwing program. Randy Johnson will have surgey on Thursday to repair the herniated disk in his lower back.

Moyer Signs Extension

Lefthander Jamie Moyer signed a two-year extension with the Phillies, Vice President & General Manager Pat Gillick announced today. Moyer's contract is worth $10.5 million, plus bonuses.

Kind of brings me back to the "Is it live, or is it Memorex?" commercial. You judge for yourself. Here's Kenny Rogers' pitching hand during Game 3 of the ALCS (left) and in the first inning of Sunday's Game 2 of the World Series. You see the brown substance just below his thumb... Is it just dirt? On both nights?
