Giants Decline Options on Finley and Wright

The San Francisco Giants have declined to exercise their club option on the 2007 contracts of center fielder Steve Finley and right-handed pitcher Jamey Wright, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced.

Yankees Announce Coaching Changes

The New York Yankees today announced several changes to Joe Torre’s coaching staff for the 2007 season. Don Mattingly has been promoted to Bench Coach after serving as the Yankees’ Hitting Coach for the last three seasons and Kevin Long has been named the Yankees’ Hitting Coach after spending three years in that capacity with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.
The Yankees did not renew the contract of Lee Mazzilli for the 2007 season.
Roy Smith Returns to Pittsburgh

Today the Pirates named Roy Smith Special Assistant to the General Manager.
Smith returns to the Pirates organization after spending the last two years as Vice President, Scouting and Player Development with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 45-year-old Smith spent six seasons (10/15/98 - 10/04) as the Assistant General Manager with Pittsburgh following an eight-year playing career with the Indians (1984-85), Twins (1986-90) and Orioles (1991). The New York native joined the Pirates as an amateur scout in 1994 before being named a special assignment scout in 1997. He was named Assistant General Manager on 10/15/98 and served as the club's interim general manager from June 11 - July 12, 2001.
