The Minnesota Twins were informed today that General Manager Terry Ryan has been named the 2006 winner of the Sporting News Major League Baseball Executive of the Year Award.
Ryan, 53, built the 2006 Twins that finished the season with a 96-66 record, winning the American League Central Division for the fourth time in the last five years. He also won this award in 2002, the season in which the Twins made their first postseason appearance since 1991. The award, presented annually by Sporting News magazine, is voted on by Major League Baseball executives. Ryan was presented tonight with a special crystal award by Sporting News Senior Vice President/Editorial Director John Rawlings in Naples, Florida, at the General Manager’s meetings.

I didn't plan on commenting on this until the facts were substantiated, but even MLB.com has a story now so we might as well jump right in...
According to MLB.com... The Boston Red Sox have apparently won the U.S. rights to star Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, it was reported on several media outlets and substantiated by highly placed baseball officials on Monday. An annoucement is expected to be made jointly on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET (10 a.m. Tokyo time Wednesday) by Major League Baseball and the Nippon Professional Baseball commissioner's offices, MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said Monday at the general managers' meetings. This whole process is pretty amazing to me. Before all is said and done, the Sox are going to spend over $100 million on a virtually unknown pitcher.
