According to the New York Post, pitcher Mike Mussina has told friends that the New York Mets would be a welcome option if the Yankees don't want him back. And the Mets likely will be interested in the former Oriole if he becomes a free agent.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Texas Rangers will interview Art Howe for the bench coach spot. Howe, who managed three playoff teams to the in 14 major league seasons, was recently hired by Philadelphia to coach third base, but the Phillies granted the Rangers permission to speak with him about a taking a step up the coaching chain.

Minnesota Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano had surgery on his left elbow Monday. The team said the procedure, performed in southern California by Dr. Lewis Yocum, with assistance from Twins physician Dr. John Steubs, took about 90 minutes and went without any complications. Liriano will miss the entire 2007 season as he rehabilitates from the ligament transplant procedure.

Carlos Delgado is so happy with the Mets that he doesn't want to leave New York. Delgado decided against filing a trade demand, the Mets said Monday, preferring to stick with the team that took him to the playoffs for the first time in his big league career. As a veteran traded during a multiyear contract, Delgado can file for a trade demand through Saturday.

The Rangers have exercised a 2007 club option for $1.2 million on left-handed reliever Ron Mahay instead of a $250,000 buyout.

Teams interested in Japanese star pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka , the MVP of the inaugural World Baseball Classic, have until Wednesday at 5 p.m. to submit bids to procure the righthander's services.

The Astros and Craig Biggio are "getting close" to agreeing on a one-year contract, agent Barry Axelrod said Monday.

Desert Dog 1B Chip Cannon hit his 10th home run of the fall on Saturday and is now 4 home runs shy of tying the AFL single-season home run record (Brandon Wood 14, 2005) … Desert Dog OF Cody Strait (CIN) currently has a nine-game hitting streak (10/24-present), Javelina Jacoby Ellsbury (BOS) has the league high (11) thus far … The Desert Dogs shut out the Javelinas 6-0, their 3rd shut out of the season, which leads the league … Saguaro RHP Leonel Rosales (SD) leads the league in saves (5) and has not yielded an earned run in his last 3 appearances and only 1 all fall … Scorpion IF/OF Mark Reynolds (ARI) is 11 for his last 25 with 8 RBI, 3 doubles and 1 triple … Desert Dog RHP Kyle Yates (TOR) is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA this fall after tossing 5.1 innings of scoreless ball on Saturday … The Arizona Fall League Championship game is set for November 18th at Scottsdale Stadium at 1:05 PM
