According to several published reports now, catcher Bengie Molina has signed a three-year deal with the San Francisco Giants, pending a physical.

Pitcher
Vicente Padilla and the Texas Rangers have indeed reached a preliminary agreement on a $33 million, three-year contrac. The deal contains an option for 2010 and is subject to a physical.

The Dodgers will announce the signing of
Mike Lieberthal on Tuesday to a one year contract.

The Padres are nearing a deal with free-agent right-hander Greg Maddux, according to FOXSports.com. The contract would be for either one or two years, or possibly one year with a club option.

Ken Rosenthal is also reporting that the Rangers are close to signing free-agent right-hander
Vicente Padilla to a three-year contract worth approximately $34 million.

General manager Brian Sabean said Monday that the Giants are definitely interested in bringing
Barry Bonds back to San Francisco, with the two sides having exchanged multiple offers. Bonds is seeking a one-year deal with a vesting option for 2008.

The St. Louis Cardinals today announced the signing of pitcher Chris Carpenter to a five-year contract extension. The deal is estimated to be in the range of $65 million.

Carpenter finished third in 2006 Cy Young Award balloting as he helped lead the Cardinals to their 10th World Championship and first in 24 years. He finished the season with a 15-8 record and 3.09 ERA and combined to go 3-1 with a 2.78 ERA in five postseason starts. Chris won two games in the Division Series against San Diego, including the series clincher in Game 4, and also pitched 8.0 shutout innings while earning the 5-0 win in Game 3 of the World Series versus Detroit.

The Padres are close to signing free agent Jose Cruz Jr., according to ESPN.com, and the Mets have signed RHP Clint Nageotte, formerly of the Mariners, to a minor-league contract.
