The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that they have signed two-time All-Star catcher Mike Lieberthal to a one-year contract with a club option for a second year, according to Dodger General Manager Ned Colletti.

“Mike is a veteran catcher who can help our club in a lot of different ways,” said Colletti. “As a former Gold Glove Award winner, he has a lot to offer
Russell Martin and he’ll be able to provide valuable leadership in the clubhouse. He’s another local player who knows what it means to be a Dodger.”

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent RHP Joe Borowski to a one-year Major League contract for the 2007 season. The deal contains a club option for the 2008 campaign.

Borowski, 35, posted a record of 3-3 with a 3.75 ERA and 36 saves in 2006 (69.2IP, 63H, 29ER, 33BB, 64K) as the closer for the Florida Marlins. Borowski finished 3rd in the National League with 36 saves in 43 chances and 2nd in the NL with 60 games finished. Joe limited Major League hitters to a .235 (63-268) average and .377 slugging % against for the season, including a mark of .167 (20-120) against left-handed hitters and .233 (27-116) average with runners on base. From June 4 thru the end of August he posted an ERA of 2.52 (35.2IP, 28H, 10ER).
