The 34-year old Melhuse has compiled a .241 career batting average.

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President and General Manager of Baseball Operations Bill Bavasi announced today that the Mariners have signed free agent right-handed relief pitcher Chris Reitsma a one-year, $2.05 million contract with a club option for 2008. “Chris is a proven, quality Major League pitcher and his ability and track record show that he can pitch at the end of games,” Bavasi said. “When we made our trades earlier this winter, we were confident that set-up quality relief would be available to re-stock our bullpen.”
