The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Mike Cameron, who finished the 2007 season as a member of the San Diego Padres, has received a 25-game suspension for testing positive for a banned stimulant in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension of Cameron, who is currently eligible to file for free agency, will be effective at the start of the 2008 regular season. Cameron, in a separate interview, insists that he did not use steroids.

As we put the finishing touches on another season and move into the winter here at BDD, I'd like to take a few minutes to thank all of you who have supported, inspired, critiqued, and linked to Baseball Digest Daily. There are tons of people to thank. I'll try to name as many as I can. If I leave off a name, please don't think I forgot about you or don't appreciate your support. My memory just isn't quite what it used to be. So without further ado, I'd like to thank the following... - My family...Christie, Ashley, Daniel, and Tyler who put up with baseball around the clock during the season...on the computer, the television, the telephone, my Blackberry...you name it. Daniel (who is 8 year-old by the way) is developing into one heck of an analyst. Back in May he pointed out to me, "I know why the Red Sox are so good...they don't swing at bad pitches and they walk a lot!" Maybe Bill James needs a new assistant! - All the current and former members of the BDD staff...Craig Brown, Martin Gandy, Rob McQuown, Scott Edelman, Dean Jones Jr., Steve Gale, Bill Richardson, Bill Chuck, Jim Correll, Ryan Mock, Basil Tsimpris, Mike Koepp, Kira Jones, and the tons of others who have put their stamp on our site. - Thanks to Jeff Sackmann (of every site out there!), John Turnbull, Marc Normandin of Baseball Prospectus, Jan Levine, and John Burnson of Heater Magazine for their suggestions, input, recommendations, and knowledge. - Thank you to our web developer and friend, Luis Garcia, who puts in all the grunt work behind the site. - Brad Laney for his PR counsel and unwavering support and friendship. - The numerous subscribers who interact with me on a regular basis...especially Steve Braccini. - David Pinto and Matt Cerrone for keeping me informed and showing me what baseball web sites should strive to become. - Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus for always being available to answer my questions, share a joke, come on as a guest, and generally mentor me along this slippery path. - Thanks to Blog Talk Radio for giving us a platform to bring BDD baseball to the air waves and letting us bring numerous baseball personalities to you, our readers and listeners. - Our numerous guests...Dayton Moore, AJ Hinch, Terry Ryan, Deric Ladnier, Gerry Hunsicker, Jon Daniels, Geoff Young, Alex Belth, JC Bradbury, Jamey Newberg, Joe Savery, Bill Shanks, Jeff Niemann, Dave Littlefield, Jim Hendry, Ned Colletti, and Jay Levin. - The countless media people across the nation who have been patient, kind, and a tremendous help to me...and I hope I'm not leaving some of you out...Carmen Molina, Brad Hainje, Megan Swingle, Doug Scopel, Bart Swain, Shannon Forde, Jay Horwitz, Dan Hart, Mike Herman, Gregg Elkin, David Holtzman, Mike Swanson, Debbie Gallas, Sue Mallabon, Maria Jacinto, Blake Rhodes, Josh Rawitch, John Steinmiller, Mike Vassallo, Paul Jensen, and Pam Ganley. - John Dewan, Steve Moyer and all the folks at Baseball Info Solutions for their tremendous statistical information and analysis - Brad Horn and Jeff Idelson from the Baseball Hall of Fame And most of all...you, our readers, listeners and members! Thank You!

Thank you to all who have already donated!!! It is greatly appreciated.
Goal: $1,500 Received: $525
As most of you know, a few times a year I run a little donation drive to help us cover some of the costs at BDD. I honestly don't like doing this, but every little bit helps. This year, more than ever, I'm asking for support. The annual cost for stats is now over $2,000, and that doesn't include any programming or modifications needed on the site.
So if you enjoy the tracker (and the soon to arrive lefty-righty splits!), articles, news updates, minor league analysis, and everything else we do (for free!), we would be extremely grateful if you could donate whatever you're able. We will accept donations through PayPal or by check or money order. Instructions are below.
PayPal PayPal donations can be made by using any credit card or bank account. Visit PayPal.com, sign in or setup a new account, and "Send Money" to joechris96@aol.com

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that manager Grady Little is leaving the Club. "This was a mutual decision that Ned and I decided is the best direction for the Dodger organization to take," Little said during a conference call announcing his resignation. Little, 57, managed the Dodgers for two seasons, posting a 170-154 record (.525) during that period, which included a wild card berth in 2006. He has a four-year career managerial record of 358-290 (.552), including two years spent with the Boston Red Sox. "I want to thank Grady for his two years of dedicated service to the organization,” said Colletti. “I have the utmost respect for him and I wish him the best both professionally and personally." You can almost hear Joe Torre singing..."I love LA...(we love it!)"

Wooo....crazy day today. Here's the lowdown... Joe Girardi was officially announced as manager of th New York Yankees today, signing a 3 year contract with the team. The Houston Astros re-signed catcher Brad Ausmus to a $2 million, one-year contract. The Brewers today declined the 2008 club option for OF Geoff Jenkins while the following players have elected free agency: RHP Francisco Cordero, LHP Ray King, 3B Corey Koskie, RHP Scott Linebrink and C Damian Miller. The Brewers also named Ted Simmons bench coach. In a corresponding move, Dale Sveum has switched from bench coach to third-base coach. Sveum replaces former third-base coach Nick Leyva, who was not invited back for the 2008 season. The Cincinnati Reds today filled out new manager Dusty Baker's Major League staff by naming Chris Speier bench coach and Juan Lopez bullpen coach. Several published reports have indicated that Joe Torre will become the next manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Well this all but solidifies two widely speculated moves...Carlos Guillen is moving to 1B in Detroit and Yunel Escobar has been handed the SS job in Atlanta. Don't be surprised if Torii Hunter ends up a Brave now either! Update I had a chance to listen in to the Tigers press conference that included General Manager David Dombrowski, Manager Jim Leyland and shortstop Edgar Renteria. Here are some notes... - Renteria won't necessarily be the Tigers leadoff hitter. - Management still believes Edgar is a leader who can still contribute offensively, even if he has lost a step defensively. - Jurrjens would have gone to Spring Training competing for the 5th starter spot if he remained in Detroit. - The Tigers do want to try to re-sign starter Kenny Rogers - Detroit will not be a player in the A-Rod sweepstakes. - Carlos Guillen has no problem "doing whatever it takes to help the team." Leyland feels that Carlos believes this is a good move for his career. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to the Braves and Tigers media relations departments for the following information. The Detroit Tigers announced today that the club has acquired shortstop Edgar Renteria and cash considerations from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for righthanded pitcher Jair Jurrjens and outfielder Gorkys Hernandez. “We are excited to add an all-star caliber shortstop in Edgar Renteria to the Tigers organization,” Tigers President, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Dombrowski said. “Edgar is a quality player, proven winner and tremendous leader that solidifies our infield.” Renteria batted .332 (164-for-494) in 124 games with the Braves in 2007, scoring 87 runs and collecting 30 doubles, 12 home runs and 57 RBI. He tied for third in the National League with a .332 batting average. “Edgar is a premier major league player that is a great fit for our club,” Tigers Manager Jim Leyland said. “I have a great history with him and I’m looking forward to being reunited with him.” Hernandez (first is pronounced GOR-keys), who just turned 20 in September, is considered one of the top outfield prospects in all of baseball. He completed his first full professional season in 2007 and earned the Class-A Midwest League Most Valuable Player Award while leading West Michigan to the league championship. Hernandez paced the circuit with 54 stolen bases and batted .293 with 84 runs, 25 doubles, four home runs and 50 RBI in 124 games. He grounded into just two double plays in 533 plate appearances. A Midwest League All-Star, Hernandez was voted by the MWL's managers as being the Most Exciting Player and the Fastest Baserunner in 2007. The strong-armed center fielder walked and scored a run in the World Team's 7-2 win in the 2007 MLB Futures Game in San Francisco on July 8. Jurrjens, 21, was rated by Baseball America to be the Eastern League's sixth-best Major League prospect (third-best pitcher) this past season. In 2006, Baseball America rated him as the best control pitcher in the Tigers organization. Jurrjens (pronounced JEYE-air JER-jens) went 7-5 with a 3.20 ERA in 19 starts at Class-AA Erie in 2007 before making his Major League debut with Detroit in August. He worked in seven games (all starts) for the Tigers, going 3-1 with a 4.70 ERA. In his last three minor league starts, Jurrjens went 3-0 with a 0.78 ERA, with 24 strikeouts and just one walk in 23.0 innings pitched. In 502.2 career minor league innings pitched (89 games/84 starts), Jurrjens has posted a 3.20 ERA with 404 strikeouts and just 121 walks.
