View Article  Cards Make Mozeliak GM
The Cardinals will announce John Mozeliak as their next general manager today at a 3 p.m. press conference after formally offering him the job Tuesday evening, club sources confirm.

Mozeliak accepted a three-year contract shortly after discussions broke down with Cleveland Indians assistant general manager Chris Antonetti, who interviewed in St. Louis last Friday with club president Mark Lamping.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Mike Cameron, who finished the 2007 season as a member of the San Diego Padres, has received a 25-game suspension for testing positive for a banned stimulant in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Cameron, who is currently eligible to file for free agency, will be effective at the start of the 2008 regular season.

Cameron, in a separate interview, insists that he did not use steroids.

View Article  Year-End Thank You!

As we put the finishing touches on another season and move into the winter here at BDD, I'd like to take a few minutes to thank all of you who have supported, inspired, critiqued, and linked to Baseball Digest Daily. There are tons of people to thank. I'll try to name as many as I can. If I leave off a name, please don't think I forgot about you or don't appreciate your support. My memory just isn't quite what it used to be. So without further ado, I'd like to thank the following...

- My family...Christie, Ashley, Daniel, and Tyler who put up with baseball around the clock during the season...on the computer, the television, the telephone, my Blackberry...you name it. Daniel (who is 8 year-old by the way) is developing into one heck of an analyst. Back in May he pointed out to me, "I know why the Red Sox are so good...they don't swing at bad pitches and they walk a lot!" Maybe Bill James needs a new assistant!

- All the current and former members of the BDD staff...Craig Brown, Martin Gandy, Rob McQuown, Scott Edelman, Dean Jones Jr., Steve Gale, Bill Richardson, Bill Chuck, Jim Correll, Ryan Mock, Basil Tsimpris, Mike Koepp, Kira Jones, and the tons of others who have put their stamp on our site.

- Thanks to Jeff Sackmann (of every site out there!), John Turnbull, Marc Normandin of Baseball Prospectus, Jan Levine, and John Burnson of Heater Magazine for their suggestions, input, recommendations, and knowledge.

- Thank you to our web developer and friend, Luis Garcia, who puts in all the grunt work behind the site.

- Brad Laney for his PR counsel and unwavering support and friendship.

- The numerous subscribers who interact with me on a regular basis...especially Steve Braccini.

- David Pinto and Matt Cerrone for keeping me informed and showing me what baseball web sites should strive to become.

- Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus for always being available to answer my questions, share a joke, come on as a guest, and generally mentor me along this slippery path.

- Thanks to Blog Talk Radio for giving us a platform to bring BDD baseball to the air waves and letting us bring numerous baseball personalities to you, our readers and listeners.

- Our numerous guests...Dayton Moore, AJ Hinch, Terry Ryan, Deric Ladnier, Gerry Hunsicker, Jon Daniels, Geoff Young, Alex Belth, JC Bradbury, Jamey Newberg, Joe Savery, Bill Shanks, Jeff Niemann, Dave Littlefield, Jim Hendry, Ned Colletti, and Jay Levin.

- The countless media people across the nation who have been patient, kind, and a tremendous help to me...and I hope I'm not leaving some of you out...Carmen Molina, Brad Hainje, Megan Swingle, Doug Scopel, Bart Swain, Shannon Forde, Jay Horwitz, Dan Hart, Mike Herman, Gregg Elkin, David Holtzman, Mike Swanson, Debbie Gallas, Sue Mallabon, Maria Jacinto, Blake Rhodes, Josh Rawitch, John Steinmiller, Mike Vassallo, Paul Jensen, and Pam Ganley.

- John Dewan, Steve Moyer and all the folks at Baseball Info Solutions for their tremendous statistical information and analysis

- Brad Horn and Jeff Idelson from the Baseball Hall of Fame

And most of all...you, our readers, listeners and members! Thank You!

View Article  Baseball Digest Daily Support Drive

Thank you to all who have already donated!!! It is greatly appreciated.

Goal: $1,500

Received: $525

As most of you know, a few times a year I run a little donation drive to help us cover some of the costs at BDD. I honestly don't like doing this, but every little bit helps. This year, more than ever, I'm asking for support. The annual cost for stats is now over $2,000, and that doesn't include any programming or modifications needed on the site.

So if you enjoy the tracker (and the soon to arrive lefty-righty splits!), articles, news updates, minor league analysis, and everything else we do (for free!), we would be extremely grateful if you could donate whatever you're able. We will accept donations through PayPal or by check or money order. Instructions are below.
