View Article  Peavy, Padres Agree to $52 Million Extension

The Associated Press is reporting that Jake Peavy and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a $52 million, three-year extension that will run from 2010-12. The team also holds a $22 million option for 2013.

Including 2008-09, for which Peavy already is under contract, he could make $87.5 million during the next six seasons.

The extension is contingent on the 26-year-old Peavy passing a physical. Look for no-trade provisions to be added as well.

View Article  Guillen a Royal? Maybe

According to every major news agency, outfielder Jose Guillen and the Kansas City Royals have apparently reached an agreement on a $36 million, three-year contract.

The 31-year-outfielder batted .290 with 23 homers and 99 RBIs for the Seattle Mariners this year. Seattle declined its $9 million option and Guillen turned down a $5 million player option, receiving a $500,000 buyout.

The agreement was subject to him passing a physical, a person familiar with the negotiations said Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made. His deal was first reported by ESPNdeportes.com and foxsports.com.

Royals spokesperson Mike Swanson would not comment on the potential deal.
