The San Diego Padres will request unconditional release waivers tomorrow on infielder Todd Walker.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.

Walker, 33, is hitting .225 (9-for-40) with three doubles and an RBI in 14 games for the Padres this Spring.  He batted a combined .278 (123-for-442) with 22 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 53 RBI and 56 runs scored with the Chicago Cubs and Padres in 2006.  Walker was acquired by San Diego on July 31, 2006 in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jose Ceda and appeared in 44 games for the Padres, batting .282 (35-for-124) with six doubles, a triple, three home runs, 13 RBI and 18 runs scored.

The New York Mets announced today that Duaner Sanchez has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture of the coracoid, a small bone in the front of his right shoulder.The recommended treatment is surgery to secure the fracture with a small screw.  Sanchez is expected to be able to resume rehabilitation within 6 to 8 weeks following the surgery and to return to competitive throwing another 6 to 8 weeks thereafter.

And according to MLB.com, Toby Hall suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder while diving for a ground ball at first base in the ninth inning of Sunday's game against Texas. The injury will most likely cost the catcher his season.

The Florida Marlins today announced that they have acquired right-handed reliever Jorge Julio and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed pitcher Yusmeiro Petit. The announcement was made by Marlins Executive Vice President and General Manager Larry Beinfest.

“This move to acquire Jorge Julio helps solidify the back end of our bullpen as he assumes the role of closer,” said Marlins Manager Fredi Gonzalez. “With his experience and success, and the quality of arms we have in front of him, we now have a strong corps to finish out games.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that they have acquired right-handed hitting outfielder Brady Clark and cash considerations from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Elmer Dessens, according to Dodger General Manager Ned Colletti.

“Brady is a very versatile outfielder who will add depth to our club,” said Colletti. “He’s shown that he can hit and that he can play all three outfield positions well. His character and work ethic will only add to the positive atmosphere in the clubhouse.”

• The San Diego Padres today reassigned infielders Manny Alexander and Royce Huffman, and catcher Luke Carlin to minor league camp.
• The Washington Nationals today announced that first baseman Travis Lee requested and received his unconditional release after informing Nationals Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden that he did not have the passion to play any longer.The Nationals also optioned right-handed pitcher Joel Hanrahan to Columbus of the Triple-A International League, outrighted right-handed pitcher Tim Redding to Columbus, and reassigned second baseman Joe Thurston to minor-league camp.
• LHP Kurt Birkins, IF Brandon Fahey and RHP Hayden Penn were optioned to AAA Norfolk by the Orioles. Two non-roster invitees – RHP Rob Bell and RHP Jon Leicester – were reassigned to the minor league camp in Sarasota, FL.
• The Pirates reassigned the following three players to minor league camp; outfielder Andrew McCutchen (AA), pitcher Jim Brower (AAA) and infielder Yurendell DeCaster (AAA)…Manager Jim Tracy also announced today that his five starting pitchers to begin the regular season will be Zach Duke, Ian Snell, Tom Gorzelanny, Paul Maholm and Tony Armas; Shawn Chacon will begin the season in the bullpen.
• Buddy Bell announced that Zack Greinke will open the season as the Royals #3 starter.
• With Nick Johnson possibly out until June, the Nationals named Dmitri Young their starting first baseman.
• The Giants reassigned Tim Lincecum to Minor League camp, where he'll prepare to begin the season with Triple-A Fresno. With Lincecum jumping up to AAA, you can expect to see him in San Francisco sooner than later.
• The Mets officially made Mike Pelfrey a member of the starting rotation.
• Pirates infielder and National League batting champion may begin the season on the disabled list with a sprained ligament in his right knee.
• The Cardinals announced their starting rotation of Chris Carpenter, Kip Wells, Braden Looper, Adam Wainwright, and Anthony Reyes.  
• Grady Little named Brett Tomko the 5th starter for the Dodgers to start the season.
