View Article  Todd Given His Walking Papers

 

The San Diego Padres will request unconditional release waivers tomorrow on infielder Todd Walker.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.

 

Walker, 33, is hitting .225 (9-for-40) with three doubles and an RBI in 14 games for the Padres this Spring.  He batted a combined .278 (123-for-442) with 22 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 53 RBI and 56 runs scored with the Chicago Cubs and Padres in 2006.  Walker was acquired by San Diego on July 31, 2006 in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jose Ceda and appeared in 44 games for the Padres, batting .282 (35-for-124) with six doubles, a triple, three home runs, 13 RBI and 18 runs scored.

View Article  Hall and Sanchez Suffer Significant Injuries

The New York Mets announced today that Duaner Sanchez has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture of the coracoid, a small bone in the front of his right shoulder.The recommended treatment is surgery to secure the fracture with a small screw.  Sanchez is expected to be able to resume rehabilitation within 6 to 8 weeks following the surgery and to return to competitive throwing another 6 to 8 weeks thereafter.

And according to MLB.com, Toby Hall suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder while diving for a ground ball at first base in the ninth inning of Sunday's game against Texas. The injury will most likely cost the catcher his season.

View Article  Marlins Acquire Julio from D-Backs

The Florida Marlins today announced that they have acquired right-handed reliever Jorge Julio and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed pitcher Yusmeiro Petit. The announcement was made by Marlins Executive Vice President and General Manager Larry Beinfest.

 

“This move to acquire Jorge Julio helps solidify the back end of our bullpen as he assumes the role of closer,” said Marlins Manager Fredi Gonzalez. “With his experience and success, and the quality of arms we have in front of him, we now have a strong corps to finish out games.”

 

View Article  Brewers - Dodgers Complete Minor Swap

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that they have acquired right-handed hitting outfielder Brady Clark and cash considerations from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Elmer Dessens, according to Dodger General Manager Ned Colletti.

 

“Brady is a very versatile outfielder who will add depth to our club,” said Colletti. “He’s shown that he can hit and that he can play all three outfield positions well. His character and work ethic will only add to the positive atmosphere in the clubhouse.”
