Matt Garza to Triple-A Rochester.

Garza was 0-0, 1.50 (12.0 ip, 2 er), allowing nine hits with five walks and seven strikeouts in six appearances (one start) this spring

The AP has a story this morning about Ugueth Urbina. The story is so sad on so many levels that it's hard to even put it in perspective. Nevertheless, here are the details:

"Former major league pitcher Ugueth Urbina was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the attempted murder of five workers on his family's ranch, a local newspaper reported Wednesday.

Urbina, a former pitcher with the Philadelphia Phillies, was also found guilty of illegal deprivation of liberty and violating a prohibition against taking justice into his own hands during a dispute over a gun on Oct. 16, 2005, El Universal reported.

The 31-year-old free agent was accused of joining a group of men in attacking and injuring workers with machetes and pouring gasoline on them at his family's ranch, located about 25 miles south of Caracas."

Urbina, of course, denies involvement. I don't know what makes a person commit such acts of violence regardless of who they are.

Ugueth Urbina's baseball career will go down as a successful one. He pitched for six teams over his 11 seasons with the bulk of the time being spent in Montreal. Urbina finished with 697 innings, 539 hits, 307 walks, and 814 strikeouts. He racked up 237 saves while compiling an ERA of 3.45 and a WHIP of 1.21.

In the end, it means nothing. Several people are scarred for life and Urbina finds himself locked up in prison for the next 14 years. He's only 33 years-old.

Sad but true.
