Others have linked to it already, but it’s worth highlighting again. Nate Silver does a great job at BP looking at the Top 100 prospects in the game using various criteria. The only thing missing is the BDD top 100 J
Beyond the Boxscore has a nice little article on Projecting John Smoltz. I have to agree that I think this is one heck of a deal for the Braves. Man that Schuerholz guy knows a thing or two doesn’t he?
John Sickels pays tribute to Josh Hancock in today’s Prospect Retro. I’m personally having a difficult time with this. It may sound silly, but the closer I get to baseball, the more these people seem like family to me.
As much as others seem to think this PED story isn’t that big or important, I tend to disagree. There is legitimate evidence here and nobody is disputing any of it…at least not yet.
If you missed it, here is the summary article of the Orioles – Indians game from Saturday. The game itself isn’t as interesting as the bizarre series of events that led to Cleveland’s protest.
Troy Tulowitzki pulled off the rare unassisted triple play on Sunday. In case you’d like to see the list of all those who have completed the feat, check out Baseball Almanac’s list. Pretty cool stuff.
Everyone is anticipating the major league debut of Tim Lincecum this year, and the guys at Baseball Analysts are no different.

Dodgers Win Marathon
by
Mike Koepp
on Sun 29 Apr 2007 09:26 PM EDT
At Petco Park today in San Diego --- The Los Angeles Dodgers out-lasted the San Diego Padres in the longest game of the 2007 season. The 17 inning game started at approximately 1:05pm PDT. Four hours and 55 minutes later it ended as Chad Billingsley struck out rookie Padre Kevin Kouzmanoff with the final score Dodgers 5, Padres 4.
According to BaseballLibrary.com the longest game in history was played May 8, 1984 by the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox. The 25 inning game was suspended in the 17th inning due to Major League Baseball Rules prohibiting an inning from starting after 12:59am. It resumed the next day and finished when Harold Baines ended it with a walk off homer to beat the Brewers 7-6.

Minor Trade and News & Notes
by

on Sun 29 Apr 2007 07:40 PM EDT
It seems trivial reporting a small trade like this on a day baseball loses a member of its family, but here it is nevertheless...
The Atlanta Braves and Oakland Athletics completed a trade today, as the Braves sent outfielder Ryan Langerhans to the A's in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Atlanta also purchased the contract of outfielder Willie Harris from Richmond (AAA).
To clear a spot on the roster, the A’s have optioned left-handed pitcher Dallas Braden to Triple-A Sacramento.
More on the untimely death of Josh Hancock later today...
Also, following today’s game vs. the Los Angeles Angels, the Chicago White Sox optioned outfielder Brian Anderson to Class AAA Charlotte.

BDD's Toby Boyce had a rare opportunity recently to interview one of professional baseball's up-and-coming bat makers...the Phoenix Bat Company. This is a fun and interesting article. I was intrigued by the devotion of the company's founder, Charlie Trudeau, and I think you will be too.
