Jeff Francoeur sparked the Atlanta offense with 3 hits and a home run on Friday

 

  • Jeff Francoeur went 3-for-4 with a home run, and Andruw Jones reached base twice, homered, and drove in 2 as the Braves defeated the Pirates, 4-1. Kyle Davies allowed just one run in 7 innings for the win.
  • Nick Markakis and Melvin Mora combined to go 8-for-9 with 4 doubles and 4 runs as the Orioles doubled up the Red Sox, 6-3. Julio Lugo had 3 hits for Boston.
  • Pat Burrell had 3 hits, hit 2 home runs, and drove in 5 to lead the Phillies to a 7-2 thumping of Rich Hill and the Cubs. Cole Hamels picked up the win for Philadelphia, allowing just 2 runs in 7 innings of work.
  • Shawn Hill pitched 5 hitless innings before departing with an injury, but the Washington bullpen picked where Hill left off as the Nationals went on to shut out the Marlins, 6-0. Cristian Guzman had 3 hits and scored 3 times, and Brian Schneider contributed 3 hits and a double for Washington.
  • A.J. Burnett allowed just one run on 5 hits in 6 2/3 innings as the Blue Jays stopped their losing streak and beat the Devil Rays, 5-1. Burnett struck out 10 for Toronto. Alex Rios has 3 hits and a home run for the Blue Jays offense.
  • David Wright, Carlos Delgado, and Damion Easley all hit home runs, and Jorge Sosa pitched his second straight solid game for New York as the Mets edged the Brewers, 5-4. Geoff Jenkins, Prince Fielder, and J.J. Hardy all homered for Milwaukee.
  • John Lackey allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 8 1/3 innings to lead the Angels to their 3rd straight win, a 6-3 decision over the Rangers. Sammy Sosa reached base twice, homered, and had 2 RBI for Texas.
  • Chris Young went 3-for-4 with 2 home runs and a double, and Brandon Webb pitched a complete game 6-hitter as the Diamondbacks knocked off the Astros, 3-1. Chad Tracy had 3 doubles for Arizona, and Carlos Lee had 3 hits and 2 doubles for Houston.
  • Carlos Guillen went 3-for-5 with a triple, home run and 4 RBI, and Gary Sheffield added 3 hits, a home run, and 3 runs as the Tigers defeated the Twins, 7-3. Justin Morneau tripled, homered and drove in 2 for Minnesota.
  • Jon Garland allowed just one run on 4 hits in 8 1/3 innings, and A.J. Pierzynski homered as the White Sox nipped the Royals, 2-1. Odalis Perez pitched 7 strong innings, allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits for Kansas City.
  • Tim Lincecum allowed 2 earned runs in 7 innings for his first major league victory, and Ray Durham and Fred Lewis each drove in 2 runs as the Giants rallied late to defeat the Rockies, 8-3.
  • Dan Johnson had 3 hits, a double, and scored twice, and Jack Cust had 2 hits, a home run, and drove in 4 as the A’s upended the Indians, 8-2. Joe Blanton picked up his 4th win of the season, allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings. Ryan Garko went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, and 2 RBI for Cleveland.
  • Jarrod Washburn pitched 8 scoreless innings, and Kenji Johjima’s 2-run home runs provided all the offense Seattle needed as the Mariners shut out the Yankees, 3-0.
  • Jake Peavy pitched 7 scoreless innings, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 10 to help the Padres to a 7-0 shutout of the Cardinals. Russell Branyan went 3-for-4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI, and Khalil Greene had 2 hits, a home run, scored twice, and drove in 2 for San Diego.
  • Nomar Garciaparra had 3 hits, and Russell Martin drove in both Los Angeles runs as the Dodgers and Randy Wolf blanked the Reds, 2-0. Wolf allowed just 4 hits while striking out 11 in 7 innings.
