More from Martin...
John Schuerholz talked briefly to the media. Schuerholz, kept his cool and basically just said, this is "part of our business."
Mike Gonzalez spoke for about 10 minutes after that. He mentioned that he was not in much pain, and that the only time, in fact, he felt pain was when the arm had spasms. The tear is a small one beneath the left elbow and it's a little unusual.
Gonzalez and the team are in consultation with doctors. They would like to have Dr. James Andrews perform the surgery, but he is currently out of the country. Scheduling will follow.
Gonzalez said he thinks the injury began when the team was in Pittsburgh but that the tear occurred in Washington. "I'm disgusted," he said. When asked if he could pitch with the injury, Gonzalez said,"I'm just not an 82 mph pitcher." I suppose that means he could pitch, but he just wouldn't be the same.
