Luke Scott provided the Astros with the offense they needed the beat the Reds on Monday
- Fausto Carmona pitched 7 innings without allowing an earned run, Trot Nixon added 3 hits and 2 RBI, and Travis Hafner hit a grand slam as the Indians crushed the Orioles, 10-1.
- Brad Penny pitched 7 scoreless innings and allowed just 5 hits while striking out 14, and Jeff Kent doubled, homered, and scored twice to lead the Dodgers to an easy 6-1 win over the Marlins.
- Chris Young allowed just 2 runs on 2 hits over 6 innings, and Adrian Gonzalez doubled, homered, and reached base 4 times as the Padres downed the Braves, 4-2.
- Rookie Matt DeSalvo pitched 7 strong innings, but the Yankees bullpen couldn’t hold the lead as the Mariners scored once in the 8th to tie the game and then once in the 9th to win it. 3-2. Adrian Beltre connected on a solo home run off New York closer Mariano Rivera to give Seattle the victory.
- Luke Scott reached base 3 times and hit a 3-run homer off Cincinnati reliever Todd Coffey in the 8th inning to help the Astros to a 5-4 win over the Reds. Lance Berkman homered, walked, and scored twice, and starter Roy Oswalt allowed just 2 runs on 6 hits in 7 innings for Houston. Alex Gonzalez hit 2 home runs and drove in 3 runs for the Reds in the loss.
- Chris Capuano pitched 8 shutout innings, Bill Hall went 3-for-4, and Geoff Jenkins hit a 3-run home run as the Brewers blanked the Nationals, 3-0. Austin Kearns had 3 hits for Washington.
- Brad Hawpe drew a bases loaded walk in the 9th inning to push a run across and give the Rockies a 3-2 win over the Cardinals. Troy Tulowitzki had 2 doubles, scored, and drove in a run, and starter Jeff Francis allowed just 2 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings for Colorado. Anthony Reyes pitched a quality game as well, going 6 innings while allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits for St. Louis.
- CF Chris Young had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and Carlos Quentin and Alberto Callaspo each had 2 hits and drove in a run as the Diamondbacks edged the Phillies, 4-3. Abraham Nunez hit 2 doubles (3 total hits), and Freddy Garcia gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings for Philadelphia.
- Benjie Molina hit 2 home runs and drove in 5, and Rich Aurilia homered, had 2 hits, and drove in 3 as the Giants scored 9 times in the 5th inning en route to a 9-4 win over the Mets.
