  • Travis Hafner went 2-for-3 with a home run, 2 runs, 4 RBI, and 2 walks, and Grady Sizemore went 2-for-4 with a triple, 2 runs, 2 RBI, and a walk as the Indians beat up Justin Verlander and the Tigers, 11-5. Victor Martinez also homered and drove in 3 for Cleveland.
  • Dmitri Young went 4-for-4, and Ryan Zimmerman doubled, homered, drove in 4 runs and scored 3 as the Nationals clobbered the Dodgers, 11-4. Cristian Guzman had 3 hits and scored 3 runs as well for Washington.
  • Mike Cameron hit 2 doubles and a home run to lead the Padres to a 4-2 win over the Pirates. Greg Maddux allowed just one run in 6 1/3 innings in the win for San Diego. Meanwhile, Shawn Chacon pitched 7 scoreless innings for Pittsburgh, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 10. He didn’t figure in the decision.
  • Aaron Hill and Frank Thomas hit solo home runs, and Roy Halladay pitched 7 scoreless innings as the Blue Jays shut out the White Sox, 2-0. Mark Buehrle was the tough-luck loser for Chicago. Buehlre pitched an 8 inning complete game and allowed just 2 runs on 2 hits.
  • Orlando Hernandez pitched 7 strong innings, and Jose Reyes reached base 3 times, scored, drove in a run, and stole a base as the Mets defeated the Giants, 4-2.
  • Mark Loretta went 3-for-5 with 3 runs, and Carlos Lee went 2-for-4 with a double, 3 runs scored, and 2 RBI to help the Astros stop their 10 game losing streak and beat the Reds, 10-2. Craig Biggio also had 3 hits for Houston, and Edwin Encarnacion went 4-for-4 for Cincinnati.
  • Corey Hart (3 hits, 2-2B, 2 runs), J.J. Hardy (3 hits, 2 RBI), and Prince Fielder (2B, HR, 2 RBI) were responsible for ALL of Milwaukee’s offense, and Claudio Vargas pitched a solid game as the Brewers edged the Marlins, 4-3.
  • Brad Thompson pitched 7 1/3 strong innings, Gary Bennett had 3 hits, and Juan Encarnacion hit a 3-run double as the Cardinals knocked off the Rockies, 7-3.
  • Brian Roberts reached 4 times and scored twice, and Nick Markakis doubled twice, walked, and had 3 RBI as the Orioles upset the Angels, 6-2. Brian Burres allowed just one run over 5 innings for Baltimore. Vladimir Guerrero and Chone Figgins each had 3 hits for the Angels.
  • Ichiro Suzuki had 3 hits, scored 2 runs, and drove in 2 to lead a 14 hit attack by the Mariners on their way to a 9-5 win over the Rangers. Gerald Laird had 2 hits, a home run, and 3 RBI for Texas.

·         The Giants traded Armando Benitez and cash to the Marlins for Randy Messenger.

·         The Brewers placed second baseman Rickie Weeks on the 15-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right wrist.

·         The Mets Carlos Beltran will undergo an MRI on his right knee today after injuring it in a collision at first base on Thursday.

·         The Yankees Jason Giambi has a torn plantar fascia tendon in the bottom of his left foot and will be out a minimum of 3-to-6 weeks...and quite possibly the remainder of the season.

·         The Chicago Cubs today placed catcher Henry Blanco on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 31, with a cervical herniated disc. In a corresponding roster move, Chicago has recalled catcher Koyie Hill from Iowa.

·         The Arizona Diamondbacks righthanded pitcher Max Scherzer have agreed to four-year Major League contract worth a little over $4 million.
