View Article  Verlander Avoids the Jinx, No-Hits Milwaukee!

Detroit's Justin Verlander pitched a no-hitter tonight, shutting down the Milwaukee Brewers on 112 pitches as the Tigers beat the Brewers, 4-0. Justin allowed just 4 walks while striking out 12 to become the second pitcher in 2007 to throw a no-hitter. Coincidentally, no email alert was sent out from the BDD staff this evening notifying the fans of the rare feat. Conspiracy? We'll let you decide!

View Article  Twins Officially Sign 1st Round Pick Revere

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have signed outfielder Ben Revere, their first round pick (28th overall) in the June, 2007 First-Year Player Draft. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

 

Revere, 18, had a career batting average of .487 (211-for-433), with 28 home runs, 39 doubles, 27 triples, 176 rbi and 91 stolen bases. He struck out just 19 times in 433 career at-bats. Heearned MVP honors while leading Lexington (KY) Catholic to the state baseball titleas a junior. The Twins scout who recommended Revere was Billy Corrigan.

 

The Twins have also signed 10 other draft picks selected in last week’s First-Year Player Draft. Below is a list of the 11 players (out of 50) the Twins havesigned to 2007 contracts.

According to Nathaniel Whalen of the Daily Southtown, the White Sox Joe Crede has elected to have surgery on his back and will be lost for the remainder of the season. Welcome Josh Fields...the job is yours!

And as you probably heard earlier, Cincinnati's Eric Milton is scheduled to have Tommy John surgery Friday and is also done for the season.

The list of injuries just continues to grow...
