  • Brian Bannister pitched 8 innings of 2 hit ball, and Emil Brown reached base 3 times as the Royals beat the Devil Rays, 4-1.
  • Jhonny Peralta had 3 hits, hit a home run, scored twice, and drove in 2 runs, and Victor Martinez homered twice and drove in 4 as the Indians edged the Tigers, 12-11, in a slugfest at Cleveland. Placido Polanco had 4 hits, scored 3 runs, and drove in 2 for Detroit.
  • Jorge Posada doubled twice and drove in 3 runs, and Robinson Cano homered, had 2 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBI as the Yankees knocked off the Red Sox, 9-5. Manny Ramirez went 4-for-5, and David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia each had 3 hits for Boston.
  • Kyle Davies allowed just one run over 7 innings, Jeff Francoeur drove in 3 runs, and 4 Atlanta hitters collected 3 hits as the Braves knocked out 20 hits en route to an 8-5 win over the Cubs. Derrek Lee had 3 hits, a home run and 2 RBI for Chicago.
  • Russell Martin doubled and homered, and Tony Abreu went 2-for-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI to lead the Dodgers to a 5-4 win over the Pirates.
  • Cristian Guzman and Dmitri Young each had 4 hits, and Ronnie Belliard knocked in the winning run in the 10th inning as the Nationals squeaked past the Padres, 4-3. Josh Bard had 2 doubles and 4 hits for San Diego.
  • Fred Lewis went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and 3 runs scored, and Matt Morris allowed just one hit over 6 scoreless innings as the Giants shut out the Phillies, 13-0. Ray Durham also had 2 hits, a home run, and 4 RBI for San Francisco.
  • Brandon Webb was brilliant for 8 innings, and Stephen Drew hit a 3-run homer, and Chris Snyder hit a 2-run home run as the Diamondbacks won their 8th in row by defeating the Mets, 5-1. John Maine allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings but took the loss for New York.
  • Ryan Braun went 3-for-3 with a double, home run, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored, and a walk, and Kevin Mench doubled twice and drove in 4 runs as the Brewers topped the Marlins, 8-5. Hanley Ramirez had 3 hits, a home run, and 2 RBI for Florida.
  • Gary Bennett and Juan Encarnacion each hit home runs to lead the Cardinals to a 7-run 9th inning on their way to an 8-1 win over the Astros. Both starting pitchers faired well in this game. Adam Wainwright and Roy Oswalt each allowed just one run on 4 hits in 7 innings for St. Louis and Houston respectively.
  • Bobby Livingston didn’t allow an earned run in 6 2/3 innings, and Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Gonzalez each went deep as the Reds held off the Rockies, 4-2. Willy Taveras had 3 hits and a stolen base for Colorado.
  • Chone Figgins went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored, and Gary Matthews reached base twice and drove in 2 runs as the Angels rallied to beat the Orioles, 3-2. John Lackey allowed just 2 runs in 7 1/3 innings for Los Angeles.
  • Kevin Slowey allowed just one run on 5 hits over 6 innings in his major league debut, and Jeff Cirillo drove in 2 runs as the Twins won their 5th straight by beating the A’s, 3-2. Milton Bradley had 3 hits, and Eric Chavez homered and had 2 hits for Oakland.
  • Marlon Byrd reached base 5 times, and Victor Diaz had 3 hits and drove in 2 runs as the Rangers outlasted the Mariners, 9-8. Richie Sexson had 3 hits, a home run, and 2 RBI, and Ichiro Suzuki had 2 hits, scored 3 times, stole a base, and drove in a run for Seattle.
