Courtesy Blue Jays.com, “The Blue Jays could potentially be without Scott Rolen on Opening Day after the third baseman suffered a displaced fracture in his right middle finger on Sunday.”

This news will not sit well with Blue Jays fans who were hoping that Scott Rolen would rid the hot corner of the injury woes from Troy Glaus in 2007.

Last season, Angel’s infielder Chone Figgins fractured the tip of two of his fingers which caused him to miss all but one game in the month of April.  At the time, the injury was being compared to that of Coco Crisp’s of 2006, which as Will Carroll wrote, “derailed” his season.

Finger and hand injuries are no joke in baseball and this one may end up really hurting the Jays if Rolen is forced to miss an extended period of time.  Currently, Will Carroll is suggesting that the injury will cost Rolen “at least two weeks”.

Interestingly, Figgins hurt his fingers on the exact day a year ago.
