Andy LaRoche suffered torn ligaments in his thumb Friday and will be out 8-10 weeks

 

  • Jeremy Guthrie threw 3 solid innings, Brian Roberts reached base 3 times, and Aubrey Huff hit a home run as the Orioles smacked around the Red Sox, 12-2.
  • Ivan Rodriguez hit 2 doubles and a home run, scored 3 times, and drove in 2 runs, and Freddy Guzman added 2 hits and 2 RBI as the Tigers defeated the Braves, 9-6. Chipper Jones was 2-for-2 with a walk and 2 RBI for Atlanta. Mike Hampton suffered an injured groin and left the game early.
  • Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel each drove in 2 runs, and Francisco Liriano pitched effectively in his return to the mound as the Twins beat the other half of the Red Sox split squad, 7-2.
  • Randy Ruiz went 3-for-4 with a home run, and Glen Perkins tossed 3 scoreless innings as the Twins "B" team blanked the Blue Jays, 4-0. Adam Lind had 3 hits for Toronto.
  • Olmedo Saenz doubled, homered, and drove in 2 runs, and Robinson Cancel went deep, walked twice and drove in 2 more runs as the Mets rallied to beat the Indians, 8-6. Travis Hafner had 2 doubles and 3 RBI for Cleveland.
  • Jeff Niemann pitched 3 innings of no-hit ball, and Chris Richard and Eric Hinske drove in 2 runs apiece as the Rays cruised to a 9-1 win over the Phillies.
  • Neil Walker clubbed 2 doubles, scored 2 runs, and knocked in 2, and Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson combined for 5 singles, 3 runs, and 4 RBI to lead the Pirates to an easy win over the Reds, 13-8. Brandon Phillips homered and drove in 5 runs, and Johnny Cueto pitched 3 brilliant innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 4 for Cincinnati.
  • Albert Pujols reached base 4 times and homered, and Rick Ankiel collected 3 hits, including a solo blast, to help the Cardinals overtake the Dodgers, 6-4. A total of 7 home runs were hit in the game. Los Angeles third baseman Andy LaRoche tore ligaments in his right thumb and will be out of action for 8-10 weeks.
  • Andrew Miller went 4 strong innings, and Dallas McPherson blasted a solo home run as the Marlins squeezed by the Nationals, 3-2. Nick Johnson had 2 doubles and a single for Washington.
  • Michael Bourn doubled and scored twice, and Victor Diaz blasted a 2-run homer as the Astros beat the Yankees, 9-5.
  • Jesus Merchan went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and a walk, and Edgar Gonzalez threw 3 solid innings to help the Diamondbacks shut down the White Sox, 10-0.
  • Scott Hairston doubled, homered, and drove in 3 runs, and Chris Young did not allow a hit over 3 innings of work as the Padres doubled up the Diamondbacks split squad, 6-3.
  • Reggie Willits went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI, and Jon Garland allowed just one run in 3 innings to lead the Angels to an 11-1 blowout of the White Sox "A" team. Chicago's A and B teams combined to score only one run on 7 hits in 18 innings of action today. That's a little scary.
  • Brad Hawpe went 3-for-3 with a double, home run, 3 RBI, and a walk, and Todd Helton had 2 hits and drove in 2 more runs as the Rockies out-slugged the Royals, 10-7. Mark Teahen homered and drove in 3 for Kansas City.
  • Nate Schierholtz hit a home run and drove in 2, and Kevin Correia pitched 4 solid innings as the Giants edged the A's, 3-2.
  • Matt Murton collected 2 hits, and Daryle Ward hit a pinch-hit 2-run home run to lead the Cubs to a 6-4 win over the Mariners.
  • Ryan Braun blasted his 3rd homer of the spring, and Jason Kendall picked up 2 hits for his new team as the Brewers held off the Rangers, 9-8. Josh Hamilton hit a grand slam for Texas.
