Hello everyone. I hope all is going well in your life. My name is Matt LaPorta, and I have the privilege of discussing my first couple of weeks of spring training camp from out in Arizona. First off, I would just like to let you know that being out here is a tremendous honor for me, and I am very thankful to be a part of the Brewers organization. It was great to come into the locker room and see my locker with my jerseys all hung up neatly and my bats lined up in a row. I opened my locker to a couple of shoe boxes that had my cleats and baseball turfs. There were also boxes full of batting gloves and wrist bands. It took a couple of days for me to get to know everyone and now that I do, this team is full of great baseball players as well as great people.
The first week out here was like a practice week before all the games started. We began games on February 28, and I had the opportunity to come in and replace a great player in Ryan Braun. In my first career big league spring training at bat, I was a little nervous. But, I just made sure to put all my trust in Jesus and knew that he was on my side. I hit the first pitch that I saw pretty hard down the left field line for a double. When I got to second base, I thought to myself...this is amazing. I just got my first big league spring training hit. It was a great feeling. Since then I have had about 11 at bats with 4 hits. Well folks, that is all the time that I have for now. I hope you enjoy this journal, and I will be in touch again soon.
Also, if anyone has a prayer request, I would be more than willing to be pray for you and whatever it is you need. Thanks again and God Bless.
Matt
