  • Gary Matthews Jr. hit 2 solo home runs, and Torii Hunter collected 4 hits as the Angels stopped the Red Sox, 6-4.
  • Curtis Granderson returned to the lineup and went 2-for-4 with 2 walks, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored, and Carlos Guillen picked up 3 hits and 5 RBI as the Tigers crushed the Rangers, 19-6. Miguel Cabrera also hit a 3-run homer, and Jacque Jones blasted a solo shot and scored 3 times for Detroit.
  • Johan Santana doubled twice and walked at the plate, and he allowed just 2 runs in 7 innings on the mound as the Mets downed the Nationals, 7-2. Ryan Church had 2 hits and 2 RBI as well for New York.
  • J.J. Hardy reached base 3 times, and Prince Fielder hit 2 home runs and drove in 4 as the Brewers nipped the Phillies, 5-4. Chase Utley and Greg Dobbs each went 2-for-3 with a home run for Philadelphia. Utley's blast was his 10th of the year.
  • Mike Mussina gave up just 2 runs on 4 hits in 7 innings of work, and Jorge Posada went 4-for-5 with 3 doubles and 2 RBI as the Yankees turned back the White Sox, 6-4. Johnny Damon also picked up 2 hits and 2 RBI for New York.
  • Chad Gaudin pitched 4-hit ball over 7 scoreless innings, and Mike Sweeney went 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI as the A's blanked the Twins, 3-0. Boof Bonser tossed 6 solid innings for Minnesota.
  • Daniel Cabrera allowed just 2 runs on 5 hits in 8 innings, and Nick Markakis homered and drove in 2 runs as the Orioles hung on to beat the Mariners, 3-2. Seattle's Carlos Silva gave up just 2 runs over 6 strong innings before leaving with tightness in his right thigh.

  • Benjie Molina hit a game-tying solo home run off Trevor Hoffman in the 9th inning, and Aaron Rowand (3 hits) and Fred Lewis each drove in runs in the 13th inning as the Giants held on to upset the Padres, 3-2. San Francisco's Matt Cain and San Diego's Greg Maddux each pitched 7 brilliant innings for their respective clubs.
