Evan Longoria powered Tampa Bay over Boston on Sunday

 

  • Chien-Ming Wang raised his record to 5-0 by pitching 7 scoreless innings, and Melky Cabrera hit a solo homer that accounted for the game's only run as the Yankees blanked the Indians, 1-0. C.C. Sabathia had a strong outing for Cleveland, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits in 8 innings of work.
  • John Lannan gave up just 4 hits over 7 scoreless innings, and Wily Mo Pena and Wil Nieves each drove in runs with RBI singles as the Nationals shut out the Cubs, 2-0.
  • James Shields pitched a complete game 2-hit shutout, and Evan Longoria hit a solo home run as the Rays stunned the Red Sox by finishing off a 3-game sweep, 2-0. Josh Beckett was the hard luck loser for Boston, striking out 13 while allowing just one earned run on 4 hits in 7 innings.
  • Josh Willingham reached base 3 times, and Wes Helms went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and a game winning solo home run in the top of the 10th inning as the Marlins knocked off the Brewers, 3-2. Bill Hall hit his 7th homer of the year for Milwaukee.
  • Alex Rios went 4-for-5 with a double, triple, and 3 runs scored, and Scott Rolen singled, homered, and drove in 2 as the Blue Jays salvaged the final game of their series against the Royals, 5-2. Jesse Litsch pitched 7 solid innings for Toronto, allowing just one earned run.
  • Chris Snyder hit a 2-run home run, and Brandon Webb tossed 6 solid innings as the Diamondbacks edged the Padres and Jake Peavy, 2-1. Peavy struck out 9 over 7 quality innings on the mound for San Diego.
  • Rafael Furcal and Russell Martin were each on base 3 times, and James Loney drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the last of the 10th inning to lead the Dodgers to a 3-2 walk-off win and 3-game series sweep of the Rockies. Todd Helton singled twice and drew 2 walks for Colorado, and Jeff Francis gave his team 7 strong innings without figuring in the decision.
  • Carlos Delgado hit 2 solo home runs, walked twice, and scored 3 runs, and Raul Casanova went 3-for-4 with a 2-run homer as the Mets defeated John Smoltz and the Braves, 6-3. Luis Castillo also had 3 hits for New York.
  • Paul Maholm pitched a complete game 2-hitter, and Nate McLouth hit 2 home runs and drove in 3 to lead the Pirates to a 5-1 win over the Phillies.
  • Paul Konerko hit 2 solo homers, and Jose Contreras pitched 6 2/3 strong innings as the White Sox outscored the Orioles, 6-1. Brian Roberts homered and reached base 3 times for Baltimore.
  • Vicente Padilla tossed a complete game shutout, Josh Hamilton went 3-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI, and Milton Bradley hit a 3-run blast as the Rangers rocked the Twins, 10-0. Michael Young also had 3 hits for Texas.
  • Troy Glaus and Albert Pujols each hit home runs, and Kyle Lohse gave St. Louis 6 strong innings as the Cardinals took care of the Astros, 5-1.
  • Brandon Phillips went 3-for-5 with 2 homers, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored, and Edinson Volquez struck out 10 while allowing just one run in 7 innings as the Reds roughed up Barry Zito and the Giants, 10-1. Ryan Freel also had 2 hits and 2 RBI for Cincinnati.
  • Joe Blanton gave up just 2 runs in 7 innings, and Emil Brown collected 2 hits and 2 RBI as the A's rallied for 4 runs off Felix Hernandez in the 8th inning to defeat the Mariners, 4-2.
  • Torii Hunter doubled, tripled, and drove in 3 runs, and Erick Aybar added 2 hits and 3 RBI of his own to help the Angels pick off Justin Verlander and the Tigers, 6-2.
