The South Florida Sun-Sentinal is reporting that a source close to Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez has confirmed that the young star has agreed to the framework on a 6 year, $70 million contract extension. Florida is essentially buying out 3 years of arbitration and 3 years of free agency from Ramirez. This is, of course, is pending a physical and an official announcement.

I'm surprised H-Ram took such a relatively tame deal. Great for the tight-pursed Marlins, though.

Bill,
Tame deal? I could not disagree more. With Howard getting $10 M in arbitration, he's already paid like the slugger and that's guaranteed money.... At least the Marlins are serious about keeping this one. That's the other good news. Re: Re: Re: Marlins Set to Offer Hanley a Big Pay Day!

I don't know Dave. I tend to agree with Bill. They bought out 3 years of free agency here. Take into account what guys like Soriano got on the open market + inflation, and I'm pretty sure Ramirez would be getting closer to $18 million per year by that time...especially since he's a shortstop, albeit, not a very good one.
