It took a while but Ken Griffey Jr. finally advanced his career home run total from 597 to 598.

The two-run home run came in the first inning against Randy Wolf of the San Diego Padres and gave the Reds a 2-0 lead.

His last home run came on April 23 and there was a 90 at-bat gap between homers.  It was the longest drought between home runs since 1990 when he went 101 at-bats without going deep.

He's 6th on the all-time list and it was his 200th as a Red.  He is only one of four players to ever hit 300 home runs with one team (Seattle) and 200 with another.  Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro and Jimmie Foxx are the only others to achieve the feat.

Other facts:

- Wolf was Griffey's 382nd victim and adds to his total against lefties (177).
- It was his 130th home run in May.
- It was the 13th home run against San Diego, 3rd at PETCO Park and 285th road homer.
- The 3-1 pitch landed in the right-field seats and was estimated at 411-feet.  That was the 69th time he hit a home run on the fifth pitch and 23rd on a 3-1 count.
- The home run came with one out and was the 205th one-out home run of his career.
- Griffey homered for the 103rd time in the first inning and it was the 167th time he broke a tie game with a blast.
- The 2-run homer was his 187th 2-run launch of his career and 274th with runners on base.

And finally, in his 20 seasons in the majors, Griffey has now homered on May 22nd five times:
